The Clarence Correctional Centre is due to open in mid-2020, with a 1700 bed facility, making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20 year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

About you

About the opportunity 

As an Aboriginal Cultural and Religious Advisor, you will be responsible for promoting and increasing diversity knowledge, providing cultural and religious advice as well as managing world faith activities.

An integral part of your role will include providing advice in the field of religious/cultural affairs, investigate and report all racial incidents, develop strong networks with various religious organisations. Cultural and Religious advisors will coordinate the use of the Centres Multi Faith Accommodation to ensure that the appropriate provisions are made for all faiths.

To be successful in this role you will

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Social Sciences and/ or relevant industry experience
  • A recognised qualification in Religious or Cultural Affairs (desirable) 
  • Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) course qualification or willing to undertake in the first year of employment. 
  • Experience in service delivery in a human service industry.
  • Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customs and contemporary issues.
  • Knowledge of the all equal opportunity and race relations legislation as well as variety of religious persuasions. 
  • Effectively communicate in both oral and written forms.
