The Clarence Correctional Centre is due to open in mid-2020, with a 1700 bed facility, making it the largest and most state-of-the-art correctional centre in Australia. Serco Australia has a 20 year contract to operate and maintain the centre, creating the opportunity for long-term, rewarding and secure employment with exciting career prospects in one of Australia’s most spectacular coastal and country locations.

The Correctional Case Officer Upskilling program has been created to support and upskill potential applicants who would like to consider a career with Serco as a Correctional Case Officer.
The program provides an opportunity for applicants to be assessed and be provided with an opportunity to further upskill in areas where they did not successfully meet the job requirements.
High-level support will be provided through your Job Active Provider in the areas identified as not meeting the minimum requirements to assist you developing your skills prior to being reassessed for the Correctional Case Officer position.

Confirmation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander heritage
Reside within Clarence Valley, Coffs Coast, North Coast and Northern Rivers region of NSW
Registered with a Job Active Provider*
*Job Active Providers – Nortec, Tursa Employment & Training (Tursa) and Enterprise & Training Company Ltd (ETC) located across the Clarence Valley, Coffs Coast, North Coast and Northern Rivers regions of NSW.
About the opportunity
As an Aboriginal Correctional Case Officer, you will be responsible for the management, supervision, care, rehabilitation, reintegration and provision of services to the people in our care. A key component of your role will be to actively participate in supporting individuals throughout their sentence whilst monitoring and maintaining the security of the centre.
You will play an integral role in promoting rehabilitation and reintegration, ensuring the safety and security in the centre and the community, and provide a safe and respectful environment to everyone in the centre.
This role also offers the opportunity to join the Emergency Response Team (ERT) as an ERT Officer. ERT Officers who have successful passed the ERT Training Course are then certified to conduct specialist duties and responses in addition to their Correctional Case Officer role. You'll need excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills. You'll be security focused, calm under pressure and physically fit enough to operate for extended periods using specialist ERT equipment.
You'll need to pass some additional initial testing to ensure you meet the required fitness standards for an ERT Officer before you can attend the ERT Training Course. If this specialisation is of interest to you, express your interest when submitting your application.
To be successful in this role you will:
- Have similar experience within a correctional environment or looking for a new career
- Hold your Certificate III Correctional Practice (CSC30115) or the willingness and ability to gain this certification
- Demonstrate a commitment to Serco’s values and the rehabilitation process
- Demonstrate a competent level of computer literacy and report writing
- Proficient interpersonal and communications skills
- Maintains high level of integrity and ethical behaviour
